Downsizing: Getting It Right

Considering downsizing your home, but not your lifestyle? Here’s some information to get you started on deciding if downsizing is a great option for you.

Downsizing is a big decision, but one that is very popular with over 55s looking for freedom – freedom from having to constantly maintain a large family house, the freedom to lock-up and travel without worry, or financial freedom to live the lifestyle you want. It can even be the social freedom of knowing that there’s a community of people to befriend, and plenty of activities available to enjoy.

There are a lot of downsizing options, making the process an exciting, but sometimes confusing experience.

For example, the finances around retirement living options are not the same as other property transactions. In this short video, leading Australian retirement living expert Rachel Lane breaks down those differences and gives you an idea of what to expect and look out for.

Did you know that retirement villages are not your only downsizing option when it comes to over 55s communities?

The fastest growing model in Australia is commonly referred to as lifestyle communities, also known as land lease communities. Some major advantages of lifestyle communities are that there are no entry or departure fees, and you get to keep 100% of any capital gain if you choose to leave.

Want to find out more? To get your research ball rolling, we’ve invited Rachel Lane to speak at our Information Morning at Club Old Bar on Wednesday 12 September! Rachel’s presentation will include talking about these lifestyle estates and how they’re different from traditional retirement villages. We’d love to see you there, but spots are limited, so make sure you RSVP using the link below:
