Motorhome Holidays: The Beauty is in the Journey

Motorhome, Recreational Vehicles (RVs) or Caravans… Whichever mode of travel transport you choose, the benefits of this type of travel are undeniable!

Road tripping your way through a holiday is a wonderful and exciting way to travel. You are essentially taking your home and home-comforts on wheels with you! In a self-contained vehicle like an RV, you’re able to control your environment and manage your own pace of travel.

Some of the benefits for this type of travel include:

  • Taking the journey in your own time
  • Saving costs on flights and accommodation
  • Home cooked meals as and when you wish
  • The ability to visit lots of places without the need to pack and unpack a suitcase
  • Plenty of storage space
  • A COVID-safe alternative to busy restaurants and accommodation

Before you hit the road for this type of vacation, a few reminders to consider:

  • Do pre-trip maintenance checks: Check petrol tank is full, tyres are checked and gas bottles for cooking are stocked up
  • Ensure your fire extinguisher and safety items are up to date
  • Create a packing checklist including medications and small items such as first aid kit, cooking utensils, tool kit, garbage bags, phone chargers etc are included
  • Pack the vehicle evenly to spread weight while traveling
  • Have a loose plan of where and when you’ll be traveling, with a backup hard copy map stored in the vehicle in case you lose mobile coverage on the road
  • Always let someone (such as a family member) know your plans and how to reach you in case of an emergency
  • Make sure your vehicle is packed and ready the day before you intend to depart
  • Have plenty of food and snacks as well as adequate drinking water in stock
  • Consider downloading audio books to listen to while driving
  • Have a good night’s sleep before departure and plan to stop at least every 2 hours to “stop, revive and survive”

Ensure you appreciate the scenery as you go… remember the beauty is in the journey, not the destination!
